- Are all of these real names?
- Yes. Every name has been given to real U.S. babies. The Social Security Administration only lists a name once at least 5 babies get it in a year, so nothing here is invented.
- How do you decide which names are rare or vintage?
- Rarity comes straight from birth counts. Vintage names are ones that peaked before 1950 and faded since. We also drop names that are common among babies today, so a "rare" list never includes a current chart-topper.
